Colly: We’ll show no mercy in quest for Twenty20 record
ENGLAND Twenty20 captain Paul Collingwood will be hoping to maintain this winter’s record-breaking theme Down Under when his side renew hostilities with Australia today.
Collingwood, who led his side to victory in the World Twenty20 tournament in the Caribbean last year, knows a victory against Australia in Adelaide would set a world record for consecutive victories in the shortest format of the game.
England’s Test team shattered a whole host of records on their way to securing a historic 3-1 Ashes series win last week, and Collingwood (right) is determined to maintain a position of dominance over the Aussies and help record an eighth straight Twenty20 win. “We’ve won seven on the trot and will set a new record if we make it eight,” said Collingwood. “It’s not easy to win that many on the trot in Twenty20.
“The guys are focused and ambitious and these are two huge games. Australia always want to beat England and we always want to beat them.”
Meanwhile, former England bowler, Angus Fraser, one of the men behind Ken Schofield’s review of English cricket in 2007, says Australia should consider looking overseas for future coaches.
“We live in a more cosmopolitan, multicultural place so therefore we get used to people from other countries working, playing here,” Fraser said. “’I think it’s healthy. When you’re winning you think there’s nothing wrong so you let it roll but when you’re losing you look at yourself closely.”
