It might only be Monday, but this is the news we've all been waiting for: London is officially home to the world's best cocktail bar.

Nestled in the heart of Mayfair, The Connaught was crowned the world's best cocktail destination this weekend at the 10th Annual Spirited Awards in New Orleans.

For brooding traveller sorts, it's also been awarded the title of the Best International Hotel Bar.

If you've been looking for a new Friday night haunt, you'll also be pleased to know four of the other eight finalists for the top cocktail spot were also from the capital – including Callooh Callay, Happiness Forgets and Hawksmoor Spitalfields.

Agostino Perrone, The Connaught's director of mixology, said: “We are honoured and delighted to accept these awards in such celebrated company with my fellow barmen from around the globe. When we first opened The Connaught Bar we wanted to create a bar with a spirit of hospitality and innovation and we have tried to continue to inspire and create magic for our guests over the years.

"These awards are all about teamwork and I look forward to raising a glass with my wonderful team at The Connaught.”

The Connaught Bar opened at the hotel, on Carlos Place, in 2008.

Other notable London winners this weekend included the Best Cocktail and Spirits Publication (Cocktail Lovers), the Best International Bar Team for the American Bar at the Savoy and the Best International Cocktail Bar (Happiness Forgets).
