Cureton aims for less strife from the wife
RELIEVED Stuart Cureton is hoping to be spared of another season of awkward silences with wife Sara when he goes in search of Powerboat glory this year.
Just seven months ago, the JP Morgan salesman was forced to concede defeat to his other half after she claimed victory while racing against him at the season-ending grand prix in the Isle of Man. But now, Cureton is open to the possibility of the couple working side-by-side as he looks to stake his claim in the SuperStock Championship Grand Prix of the Sea.
“It’s yet to be decided,” he said. “Sara may be racing in the 150 class so I could yet be racing against her again, but if she can’t get a ride then she’ll come in and navigate for me. Sara is extremely competitive. She pipped me last year after we suffered engine trouble and she certainly let me know about it. We had to leave it a few days before we started speaking again.
“We have raced together before so I’m not worried about our relationship on board. It’s dangerous if you don’t work as a team, so all household quarrels go out of the window.”
The inaugural race of the season takes place in Penzance on 21-23 May, and Cureton is confident preparations are going to plan.
“The boat is being refitted and resprayed and a new engine is set to be installed next week,” he added.
Cureton is attending a ‘Try and Buy’ day in Southampton tomorrow where VIP guests and prospective sponsors are put through their paces on the Solent.
