Dalglish insists there’s more to come as Carroll has lift off

LIVERPOOL manager Kenny Dalglish believes Andy Carroll will go from strength to strength after his £35m investment registered his first goals for the club in a comfortable win over Manchester City.
The England striker struck his maiden goal for his country a fortnight ago and got off the mark for the club he joined in January with a thumping 25-yard half volley after 13 minutes.
His second, a trademark header which may have taken a slight touch off Aleksandar Kolorov, came in the 35th minute, just 60 seconds after Dirk Kuyt had doubled Liverpool’s lead with a precise low finish.
Afterwards Dalglish said: “The first goal was a great strike and second was a great ball in and a good flick on.
“That won’t do him any harm to score his first goals at Anfield.
“I think it is a gratifying performance for everyone. I thought we thoroughly deserved victory. The way we went about our work was a great credit to ourselves and the football club.
“We could have scored before we did. They’re very honest lads and have worked very hard since I’ve come in.”
A miserable night for City, whose lead over fifth placed Spurs remains at three points having played a game more, was compounded by a first-half injury to Carlos Tevez which appears certain to rule him out of the weekend’s FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United at Wembley.
“Carlos’ hamstring is very difficult for Saturday,” said City boss Roberto Mancini. “It is very difficult as it is only five days away.
“We’ll try (to get him fit) but we probably need two weeks.”
On City’s insipid display last night, the Italian added: “I am sorry for the fans. We only started to play after 20 minutes.
“I think the players can do better, but I made a mistake of my own in this game.”
