Double jabbed Brits ‘to avoid quarantine’ from amber list destinations from 19 July

Some of us are going on a summer holiday: fully vaccinated travellers are set to skip quarantine on return from amber list countries from 19 July.

Double jabbed Brits will be able to return from amber list countries without needing to quarantine from 19 July, in a major boost to summer holiday plans.

The Sun reported that transport secretary Grant Shapps would announce the change of rules tomorrow.

The change of rules – which will come into effect at the same time as the majority of England’s Covid restrictions are lifted – will mean control-free trips to Spain, France and Italy for millions of Brits.

Although travellers will need to take two tests – one before returning to the UK, and another PCR test on the second day after returning – the need for a test on day eight and the rule to isolate for 10 days will no longer apply.

It was added that children travelling with parents who had received both doses would also be exempt from quarantine, raising hopes further with the school holidays just round the corner.

However, despite the proposed easing of restrictions in the UK, many popular European holiday destinations have their own restrictions on Brits looking to go on holiday.

But with German Chancellor Angela Merkel recently announcing that Germany will lift restrictions on fully vaccinated people from the UK, it is hoped that other countries will follow suit.

In preparation for the changes, BA and Virgin Atlantic have begun a trial at Heathrow Airport which will see fully vaxxed passengers fast-tracked through separate queues.
