EE boss Olaf Swantee aims for 7m 4G customers
Britain’s biggest mobile operator, EE, saw its 4G customer base grow by 1.4m during the third quarter to 5.6m total subscribers.
The growth puts EE on track to beat its 2014 goal of signing up 6m customers to its superfast offering, the largest 4G network in Europe.
“We’re going to exceed that number, and it’s not that we set low targets, it was fairly ambitious. I expect that we will probably exceed 7m before the end of this year,” chief executive Olaf Swantee told Morning Wire
Despite the signup growth, operating revenue remained flat excluding regulation, but fell 1.2 per cent to £1.52bn including regulatory cuts to roaming and wholesale fees.
He downplayed recent reports that EE’s owners Orange and Deutsche Telekom would look to sell off the operator. “Whether it’s a float or whatever, there’s no rush because the joint venture works and we don’t need capital.”
