England ponder revival of Home Nations dates
A HOME NATIONS tournament involving England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland could be set to return to the sporting calendar for the first time since 1984.
Football Association chiefs have held talks about reviving the competition, with new sponsors Vauxhall said to be particularly keen on the move.
The FA will today confirm an agreement with the car manufacturer thought to be worth around £5m per year. Vauxhall are also tipped to strike deals with the other three Home Nations.
England officials are thought to want to wait until 2013 to resume the competition so that Fabio Capello’s men are not distracted from the 2012 European Championships.
Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland are preparing to take part in a new tournament, the Carling Nations Cup, which starts next month.
