The vote Remain camp holds a 13-point lead over Leave rivals in the campaign for the upcoming European Union referendum, driven by a support from a majority of men, Conservative voters and the elderly.

The ORB poll found 55 per cent of those who definitely plan to vote supported remaining in the EU, while 42 per cent of respondents supported Brexit.

Three voter groups of men, those aged over 65 and Tory supporters all previously supported leaving the EU when a similar survey was conducted in March.

On Saturday, bookies William Hill and Ladbrokes offered the shortest odds to date that Britain will vote to remain in the Europe. Odds for staying in the EU were cut from 1/6.

While telephone and online polls have given contradictory pictures of public opinion, betting odds have consistently indicated a high probability of an in result when Britons go to the polls.

Yesterday, the vote Leave campaign unveiled a 30-strong expert group, including Hargreaves Lansdown founder Peter Hargreaves and economist Roger Bootle, to dismiss figures from the Treasury that suggested the UK could be set to lose up to 800,000 jobs if the UK voted out.
