Everton can heap further frustration on Man United

FIRST up on Sunday is Manchester United against Everton at home, where the visitors must think they can win.

Louis van Gaal’s spending splurge looks misguided when you compare the attacking riches he’s brought in to the inexperienced backline that has shipped nine goals.

The club managed only a second win of the campaign against West Ham last Saturday, but you could sense the tension inside Old Trafford as the Hammers nearly nicked a point. Wayne Rooney’s red card was as welcome as a tax bill.

Everton have not hit the heights of last season’s excellent fifth place, and have the division’s worst defensive record, so United might be tempted to go gung-ho believing they can outscore their rivals. That would be a mistake.

The Toffees won for the first time in 21 years here last season and the stunning last-minute equaliser by Phil Jagielka in the Merseyside derby last week is just the kick-start they needed.

United look vulnerable against anyone at present and selling the host’s supremacy with Sporting Index at 0.75 is good value. A draw would make a decent profit and you wouldn’t write off Everton making it an 11th defeat from United’s last 27 home league games.

Traders at Sporting Index may have over-reacted to both side’s defensive woes and it’s rare you can sell goals at 3.25 in a match like this. That has to be the call as six of the last seven meetings between the pair have produced under 2.5 goals.
