Is Facebook down? Social media site serves error message to users

Facebook has been down this morning, with the message “Sorry, something went wrong” appearing when users visit the site.

The social network site said it was working on getting it fixed as soon as possible. The cause of the disruption is not yet known. 

It is not just the UK that has been affected, with users in the US and Asia also reporting problems.

The site came back live at about 9.30am, but inevitably, people had already taken to Twitter in droves discussing the potentially life-changing impact of Facebook going down by that time:
