Facebook fixes glitch that crippled photo-sharing across platforms
Facebook said it has resolved a glitch that prevented users from sending and viewing images and videos across its platforms for several hours yesterday.

An outage yesterday crippled image-sharing for Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and Whatsapp users around the world.
But in a tweet early this morning the company said photo capabilities had been restored.
“The issue has… been resolved and we should be back at 100 per cent for everyone. We’re sorry for any inconvenience,” the firm said.
However, the cause of the outage was not immediately clear.

The glitch exposed some of the AI technology used by the social media giant. In some cases, pictures were replaced by automatically-generated text explaining their contents.
In March Facebook was hit by its worst ever outage, which crippled its platforms for more than 14 hours.
Separately, rival social media platform Twitter also had issues yesterday with its direct messaging and notification systems.
Early this morning the firm said the issues were “almost at 100 per cent resolved”.

“There may be some residual effects for a small group of people, but overall your DMs should be working properly now. We appreciate your patience!” it wrote in a tweet.
