London property in pictures: A former car showroom has been converted into Mayfair’s “largest” flats
It's the antithesis of London's latest trend for tiny houses squeezed into gaps between buildings: a block of flats described as London's "largest" apartments – on the site of a former car showroom – has gone on sale in Mayfair.
Glebe, the developer behind The Mellier, says its apartments have the largest rooms of any flats in London, with ceilings up to 3.5m (11.5ft) high, and 6.5m by 5.3m bedrooms.
In fact, at 5,845 sq ft, the company reckons the three-bedroom penthouses are the size of "extremely large five bedroom flats".

The building is on the site of the former headquarters of Lendrum & Hartman, luxury Buick and Cadillac car dealers. In the 1920s, it was known as Buick House, with the cars showcased on its ground floor, while the company's boss, F.W. Hartman, had a flat on the top floor.

Its latest incarnation began in 2011, when Glebe bought the building and appointed Eric Parry Architects to design the entrance hall and interior layouts, while Studio Makreth designed the rest of the interior.
But alas, the space comes at a premium: flats start at £18m, with a duplex penthouse coming in at a cool £30m.
