Fresh injury for England star Moody
ENGLAND captain Lewis Moody needed stitches after suffering another head injury playing for Bath but declared himself fit to face New Zealand in the first autumn international on Saturday.
Flanker Moody was left caked in blood after sustaining a blow in the first half against Harlequins yesterday but saw out the match as Steve Meehan’s side drew 6-6 at The Stoop.
Moody was only playing as England chiefs felt he needed more match practice before facing the All Blacks, having been sidelined with an eye socket injury that has permanently damaged his sight.
“I was a bit nervous going into the game that I would not pick the ball up as quickly but it was fine. Even in the dwindling light conditions it did not affect me,” said Moody.
“The eye’s all right – it was a case of getting my eye in, so to speak! Having three or four weeks off is not ideal for your fitness but I was really happy to be on the field at the end.”
Two Olly Barkley penalties put Bath ahead but Nick Evans responded in kind to earn Quins a draw.
Wasps bounced back from defeat to Northampton with a 17-8 victory at Leeds Carnegie, Joe Simpson and Tom Rees scoring the tries.
