Gallas believes Spurs can challenge for league title
FORMER Arsenal captain William Gallas admits he agonised over his decision to sign for arch-rivals Tottenham.
But the French defender, who trained as a Spurs player for the first time yesterday, now fancies his new club to mount a Premier League title challenge. Gallas, 33, signed a one-year deal at White Hart Lane on Sunday after being released earlier this year by the Gunners.
“It was not an easy decision but I am here now and I will give my best,” said Gallas. “What is most important to me is to play games and to give everything. I just want to be fit as soon as possible, train with my team-mates and play matches. I want to show everybody I am still here.”
Tottenham are flying high under Harry Redknapp, having finished fourth last season, and Gallas believes they can even win the league for the first time in half a century.
“Finishing fourth last season shows Spurs have improved a lot and I hope this season we are going to finish even higher, maybe even win the Premier League,” he added.
“We have got young players with great quality, they just have to believe in their capacity to do something and I hope we can achieve this.”
