Giggs to miss Wembley final after fracturing right arm
MANCHESTER UNITED winger Ryan Giggs has been ruled out of action for four weeks after fracturing his arm in Wednesday’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa.
The 36-year-old has his right arm in a sling after tussling with Villa’s Steve Sidwell during the second half of the 1-1 draw at Villa Park.
As a result, the Welshman will now miss both legs of the Champions League last-16 clash with AC Milan, plus the Carling Cup final with Villa at Wembley on 28 February. He also sits out vital league games against Everton, Wolves and West Ham.
Veteran Giggs’s fine form earned him a number of accolades last year including the PFA Footballer of the Year and 2009 BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
His loss is a huge blow for United chief Sir Alex Ferguson, who is still chasing a Premier League, Champions League and Carling Cup treble.
Ferguson is also without another winger, Nani, for the Carling Cup showpiece at Wembley after the Portuguese star was sent off at Villa Park for a foul on Stiliyan Petrov.
United, however, hope to welcome back Serbian defender Nemanja Vidic for Tuesday’s Champions League trip to AC?Milan after recovering from the calf injury which has kept him out for over a month.
Vidic’s defensive partner Rio?Ferdinand, currently suspended, is available for European matches.
