Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis attacked in Athens restaurant
Poor Yanis Varoufakis. Not only has the Greek finance minister had to endure being sidelined by his boss – he's now been attacked by anarchists in an Athens restaurant last night, as he had dinner with his wife, according to reports.
Varoufakis said he was eating in the Exarhia district of the Greek capital, an area popular among the city’s extreme leftists and anarchists, last night, when a group, with their faces covered approached him and his wife and demanded the couple leave the district.
The group then proceeded to bombard Varoufakis with glass objects until his wife grabbed him, meaning any projectiles would hit her first.
Neither Varoufakis nor his wife were injured and, according to his account, the finance minister spoke to the assailants outside the restaurant, and the situation calmed.
Varoufakis has been under pressure recently after being sidelined from Greece’s negotiating detail. This follows a meeting in Riga last week in which Varoufakis clashed with all 18 of his Eurozone counterparts.

There have also been rumours he almost came to blows with Jeroen Dijsselbloem, the president of the Eurogroup.
