Hammers chief snubs £7m Parker bid and pledges to keep Spurs target

WEST HAM chairman David Sullivan has told Tottenham that no amount of money would tempt them to sell Scott Parker, after rejecting a £7m bid for the England midfielder.

Parker’s form has been outstanding for the Hammers since arriving from Newcastle three years ago, winning their player of the season award for the past two years and earning a call-up to Fabio Capello’s initial World Cup squad.

So popular is he with fans that Sullivan named him as the one player the debt-ridden east London club would not consider selling. That did not stop Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp trying his luck with an offer for the 29-year-old, but Sullivan has dismissed the bid and warned Spurs not to bother continuing their chase.

“I made a promise that I would not sell Scott and I will not, for any amount of money, break that promise to the West Ham supporters,” said the club’s co-owner.

“Scott is not for sale at any price, to anyone. West Ham supporters, for far too long, have had owners that sell their best players and promise one thing and do another.

“This is a new era. We are building a bigger, better West Ham and when we make a promise, we honour it.”
