HEATHROW terminal boss Mike Brown is moving back to London Underground (LU) to take up the managing director position, after leaving in 2008.

He first worked for LU in 1989, but left last year to head up Heathrow, after Mark Bullock quit following the messy opening of the new Terminal 5.

Under his leadership, service issues at the Terminal have been largely resolved.

Brown, who will take up the position in early 2010, will take over from Tim O’Toole, who has been MD at LU for six years. Brown was previously the chief operating officer at LU, before joining BAA.

“It is a privilege to have been offered this chance to lead London Underground,” he said.

“Millions of passengers rely on the Tube every day and I look forward to working collaboratively with LU’s staff and all our partners to deliver the improvements so vital to London’s future,” he added.

Speaking on Brown’s appointment, transport commissioner Peter Hendy said: “After decades of neglect, the system is literally being rebuilt. Mike will bring all of this to fruition while demonstrating clear value for every pound spent.”
