Horse Racing Betting Tips: Advertise out to prove he’s a Future Champ
TOMORROW’S star-studded card at Newmarket should give us plenty of clues ahead of next season, with so many exciting juveniles set to go on trial.
The pick of the trio of two-year-old races has to be the Group One Dewhurst Stakes (3.00pm) where John Gosden’s Too Darn Hot, already a warm favourite for both next season’s 2000 Guineas and Derby, bids to enhance his already glowing reputation.
Winner of all three starts this season, including the Group Two Champagne Stakes at Doncaster on his latest outing, this son of Dubawi steps up to the highest level for the first time.
There is no reason to doubt his star quality and the acceleration he has shown to date certainly warrants the odds-on quoted across the board.
However, he is very much in at the deep end here and if a racecourse is to catch him out at this stage of his career, it is the undulations of the Rowley Mile at Newmarket.
Connections have already expressed that their future star prefers a flat track and I just worry that at the business end of the race, where he has been hitting top speed recently, he may struggle with the famous dip and have to change his feet to retain balance.
The reality is that it may not be enough to stop him, but it is certainly big enough of a concern for me to take the skinny price about him.
Sir Michael Stoute’s unbeaten Sangarius is the obvious one to take him on with, but he is only a best-priced 3/1 with Coral to upset the favourite in his first foray into Group company.
He looked well above average at Doncaster last time, but unfortunately that fact hasn’t been lost on the bookmakers.
The pick of Aidan O’Brien’s raiders looks to be Anthony Van Dyck, but he was well and truly put in his place by Quorto in Ireland last time and may want further.
For that reason, I am prepared to take an each-way chance on ADVERTISE, the forgotten horse in the race, at 8/1 with Coral.
Not only is he the only Group One winner in the field, Marytn Meade’s colt has been freshened up for this assignment over the last couple of months.
There is no reason to think he won’t stay this seven furlong trip and he certainly possesses a turn of foot to keep the odds-on favourite on his toes.
Looking at the other two juvenile contests and there has been plenty of money all week for John Gosden’s Waldstern in the Zetland Stakes (1.50pm).
He looks to hold a very solid chance with the step up in trip likely to suit, but he may need a drop of rain to be seen at his best and is plenty short enough already.
Instead, I’d rather wait for the Andre Fabre-trained PERSIAN KING in the Autumn Stakes (2.25pm) and the 9/4 currently on offer should be snapped up.
This son of Kingman has looked a bit special in both his two recent starts at Chantilly over this trip and his shrewd trainer will be having a look at Newmarket with half an eye on next season’s 2000 Guineas.
He looks a colt with a really exciting future… a potential star!
