Apple is planning a big media event for 9 September when it could reveal the much anticipated iPhone 6.

The new iPhone has been widely rumoured for a September launch and Recode reports that Apple has now planned an event for the 9th- just five weeks away.

The tech giant has traditionally unveiled its next generation devices in September and handset maker Hon Hai Precision Industry was last month said to be putting the iPhone 6 into production.

The Cupertino-based company is believed to be launching two handsets, one model with a 4.7 inch screen and a second with a larger 5.5 inch display. A new operating system, iOS 8, could also be revealed.
