Apple was commended by its employees for its good pay, positive work culture, and even for giving them the occasional freebie.

Despite Apple taking the lead, UK firms accounted for two-thirds of the list of 25 companies.

In second place was Humberside homeware retailer Wren Kitchens, which employs more than 4,000 staff and scored highly for valuing and treating its employees well.

Global pharmaceutical business Glaxo Smith Kline came third for offering a good work-life balance.

The retail sector dominated the top 25 firms, with ten high street brands, including struggling John Lewis and Marks & Spencer, in eighth and 10th spots respectively.

John Lewis staff felt valued at work, with good opportunities for job progression, while Marks & Spencer received praise from staff for its pay and benefits as well as its culture.

Bill Richards, UK managing director at Indeed, said: “Companies that make their employees feel valued and offer a positive working environment score consistently highly among the reviews posted on Indeed. As we continue to see for many staff, work-life balance, career prospects and a great workplace culture can all mean more than a good salary alone.”
