Jaguar Land Rover to recall nearly 12,000 cars in one of its biggest markets
Jaguar Land Rover, a unit of Tata Motors, will recall 11,852 vehicles in China over possible engine and oil leakage problems, the country’s industry watchdog has said.
The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine(AQSIQ) has said that Jaguar Land Rover would recall 8,656 Land Rover Freelander 2 and Range Rover Auroras and 3,169 Jaguar XF and XJ models.
AQSIQ said an issue with the cooling assembly in the Jaguar cars could result in the engine stalling unexpectedly, while a design fault in the Land Rovers could result in oil leakage and a potential fire hazard.
This is the second major recall in China in recent days, after BMW had to pull 143,215 cars over a defective plug in the power steering system.
This will be a blow for Jaguar Land Rover, which generates around 21 per cent of its sales from China. It has plans to sell 100,000 units in the country by the end of the 2014 fiscal year.
