Decimo King's Cross
Decimo at Standard Hotel in King's Cross

Once little more than a train station set in a dystopian commercial wasteland, King’s Cross is now a business hub to rival The City and Canary Wharf, with tech giant Google’s vast campus overlooking an ever-expanding roster of sophisticated shops and restaurants. Here’s how to eat there in style, no matter what time of day.

Granger & Co in King's Cross

Breakfast

To start the day, we recommend grabbing a window table at Granger & Co. Australian chef Bill Granger is known for his excellent breakfast menus and from 7am you’ll find a wonderful selection of morning classics accented with the Asian influences that define Granger’s cooking. We recommend the chilli fried egg in brioche with baby spinach, spiced mango chutney and halloumi, which costs an entirely reasonable £8.50. Book here.

Sons + Daughters King's Cross

Lunch

For something a little different we recommend a stop at Sons + Daughters, a sandwich shop whose outre menu – featuring items including posh chip butties and prawns with prawn crackers – belies an impeccable attention to detail and dedication to ingredients. The counter-style seating won’t fit the bill for a formal business meeting but if you need some mid-afternoon fuel in King’s Cross, this is a winner. Find out more here.

Decimo at the Standard Hotel

King’s Cross has a legit destination restaurant in Decimo, with its mostly-Mexican menu that that draws inspiration from chef Peter Sanchez-Iglesias’ Spanish heritage. It’s a real stunner, accessed by a glass lift, with the wrap-around windows offset by lots of Mexican drapery and textured fabrics. The relatively slight menu has quality from top to bottom, from the excellent croquetas de jamon and charred leek, to the superlative tostadas, through to the most beautifully-presented red mullet we’ve ever seen and some absurdly delicious Mangalitza pork. Skip lunch and bed in for several hours of excellent eating; Decimo is a genuine delight and we can’t recommend it enough. Book here.
