CHELSEA midfielder Frank Lampard insists the appointment of new manager Carlo Ancelotti has triggered a wave of optimism at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard says he has received glowing tributes from all those he has canvassed about the Champions League-winning former AC Milan coach. And, having finished last season on a high by lifting the FA Cup, Lampard believes Ancelotti will take the Blues even further in the forthcoming campaign.

Speaking in Kazakhstan ahead of England’s World Cup qualifier in Almaty tomorrow, Lampard said: “Can Ancelotti take Chelsea to the next level? I hope so. It is a very good and positive appointment.

“Ancelotti has been a very impressive manager with the titles he has won, the players he has worked with, and particularly with the bond he seems to strike with his players.

“Myself and the Chelsea boys here are very excited about the future.”

Having enjoyed a fine season, Lampard hopes to take that form into next summer’s World Cup, a place at which will be all but ensured with victory tomorrow and against Andorra on Wednesday.

“I feel I’ve had my best season even though it didn’t bring lots of silverware for the team,” he added.

“All I want to do is carry on with this form, try and improve it, and take it into the World Cup.”
