Clyde & Co is taking its first steps onto German soil, announcing today that it will be launching an office in Dusseldorf.

The Dusseldorf office, which will open in the autumn, is the firm's 15th in Europe and 46th worldwide.

The new office will initially be populated by a five-strong team from European law firm Noerr, which Clyde & Co has worked closely with in the past, and will have a strong insurance focus.

"Germany is one of the world's most important economies and has an exceptionally strong insurance market supporting its core industries," said Simon Konsta, global head of insurance at Clyde & Co. "It has long been a gap in our global network.

"Having an office in Dusseldorf, in Germany's industrial heartland and the home of many domestic and international insurers, will enable us to better support our international clients, form deeper ties with our German clients and increase our share of outbound work from Germany."

James Burns, senior partner at Clyde & Co, added: "The decision to open in a new market is never taken lightly. For us to do so we need to be confident that not only will it benefit our clients but also that we can hire the best lawyers in our chosen sectors."

Dr Henning Schaloske, who is joining from Noerr and will be heading up the Dusseldorf office, said he was "delighted" with the move.

Clyde & Co, which was named firm of the year at The Lawyer Awards recently and grew its revenues by 13.1 per cent in the year to April, also opened its sixth office in the US earlier this year, when it acquired a large team in Miami.
