London Marathon 2019: Start times, road closures and where to watch the race

Thousands of runners will take to the streets of the capital tomorrow to take part in this year’s London Marathon.

Around 40,000 participants will set off between Greenwich Park and Blackheath in south-east London tomorrow, in the 39th annual event.

Start times

9:00 – Elite Wheelchair Races

9:10 – World Para Athletics Marathon Championships Ambulant Athletes

9:25 – The Elite Women’s Race

10:10 – The Elite Men’s Race, British Athletics & England Athletics Marathon Championships and Mass Race

Mile 12 – Tower Bridge

Spectators can view runners approaching the 12 mile mark as they run across this London landmark.

The area around Tower Hill is a good location to spot runners, however the London Marathon organisers warned that it will be extremely busy.

Organisers recommended walking up to Bank station to hop on the Docklands Light Railway and catch up with the race a few miles further along the route.

Miles 14 to 21

Participants will have just crossed the halfway point as they head out east towards Canary Wharf and the Isle of Dogs

Spots to avoid

Race organisers warned spectators to avoid busy areas such as Greenwich town centre and the Cutty Sark, as well as anywhere from mile 24 to the finish in the Mall.

Road closures

Road closures will be in place throughout London and along the race route. Organisers have created an online map, which will update in real time tomorrow.
