Megson in the frame for Hull job after Brown pays price for slump
HULL CITY chiefs expect to appoint a new manager in the next 24 hours after Phil Brown was effectively sacked for failing to arrest their slide down the Premier League table.
Brown, who took the Tigers into the top flight for the first time ever in 2008 but on Saturday saw them slip to 19th place, has been placed on gardening leave.
Former Bolton boss Gary Megson is the favourite to succeed Brown after Hull chairman Adam Pearson ruled out a move for ex-West Ham and Charlton manager Alan Curbishley.
“We’re probably looking at a deal to the end of the season,” said Pearson. “Alan is a fantastic manager but it needs to be someone we can get in on a nine-game basis. He is not on that list. We expect there will be an announcement at the latest by Wednesday morning.”
Hull face a £21m shortfall in revenue if they go down. In its most recent accounts, the club’s auditors expressed doubts over its ability to continue as a going concern even if avoids relegation.
