Manchester United are set to bolster their midfield ranks with the signing of France’s Morgan Schneiderlin after a fee in excess of £25m was agreed with Southampton.

Schneiderlin is poised to join Germany’s World Cup winning midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger at Old Trafford, with the 30-year-old set to complete a £15m move to United after issuing a public farewell to Bayern Munich supporters.

Schweinsteiger, 30, has spent his whole career at the Bavarian giants and is set for a reunion with United manager Louis van Gaal, who also coached Bayern between 2009 and 2011.

“My destination is Manchester United,” he said via social media. “I hope you understand my decision. No one can take away the incredible journey we had.”
