Mo Farah has been handed one last shot at qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Farah is hoping to complete a hat-trick of gold medal triumphs in the men’s 10,000m in Japan this summer.

The 38-year-old missed the chance to qualify at the official Team GB trials nine days ago.

Farah was eighth overall and only the second fastest Briton behind Marc Scott and his time of 27:50:64 fell short of the Olympic qualifying standard.

But he will get another crack at clocking the required 27:30:00 at the British Athletics Championships in Manchester on 25 June.

British track chiefs have organised the invitational race especially for Farah in the hope that he can make it to Tokyo 2020.

Unusually for a national championship, the race has been opened up to international runners in order to fill out the field.

UK Athletics has even invited applications from interested elite male distance runners.

Farah won the 5,000m and 10,000m double at both the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Games.

He switched to marathon distance after Rio but has since returned to the track in a bid to compete at a fourth Olympics.

Farah cited a minor ankle injury after his disappointing outing at the Team GB trials, which ended his 10-year unbeaten record over 10,000m.
