Move isn’t about cash, says Coyle
BOLTON boss Owen Coyle insists his controversial cross-county switch was not motivated by money.
The 43-year-old was officially unveiled at the Reebok Stadium yesterday after arriving from the club’s Lancashire rivals Burnley.
Many questioned Coyle’s motivation for leaving Turf Moor, but the ex-Bolton striker insists his decision to turn down the manager’s job at boyhood heroes Celtic in the summer was living proof that it had nothing to do with securing a bigger salary.
“I’ve never been motivated by money in my life,” said Coyle, who leads out his side for the first time against Arsenal on Sunday.
“If it was finance I would have taken the job at Celtic in the summer. That is just a knee-jerk reaction from people that do not know me. I have an unbelievable challenge ahead here at this magnificent club, with a magnificent stadium, and I have to take that on.”
Coyle has also been promised cash by chairman Phil Gartside to strengthen his squad in the January window.
The Trotters lie rooted in the bottom three and Gartside says the club will do everything possible to back the new boss. “We have never not backed a manager in the transfer window. We have always done some business and it will carry on that way.”
