New iPhone SE launch and rumours: Everything we know so far about Apple’s event on 21 March
Apple is set to showcase its new iPhone SE – 'special edition' – at a launch event on March 21, finally putting the rest rumours about the design and specifications of the smartphone that have been circling the internet for months.
The iPhone SE is rumoured to have a 4-inch display while keeping many of the specifications of the iPhone 6 and 6s, including Apple Pay, models with 16 or 64 GB memory, and a Live Photos feature for creating mini-videos. It is expected to be available in gold, silver, space grey and rose gold.
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is said to have issued a note to investors, which was leaked to tech website MacRumors, in which he claimed the new model will cost between $400 and $500 in the United States – much cheaper than the iPhone 6s, which starts at $649. The move is apparently intended to target buyers in emerging markets such as India and China.
As Apple are reportedly trying to draw in more buyers, the relatively cheap iPhone won't be slower than it's predecessors, with the same processor and chips as the iPhone 6s.
Apple is putting Instagrammers first with its newest model, as the iPhone SE is rumoured to include a 12-megapixel camera on the back of the phone, and an 8-megapixel phone on the front for high-resolution selfies.
Pre-orders of the low-cost iPhone SE may be available after the launch event on March 21, and the units could arrive in shops the following week.
