Professor Philip Booth to step down from the Institute of Economic Affairs after 14 years

Professor Philip Booth, the academic and research director at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) is stepping down from his role after 14 years.

He is leaving on 7 November to take up the role as director of research and public engagement at St Mary’s University, but will remain at the IEA for one day a week from then onwards.

"In recent years, in particular, the IEA has gone from strength to strength and I have much appreciated being part of that renaissance, working with a magnificent team and other wonderful colleagues," said Booth. "Together, we have created an organisation that is firing on all cylinders and effective in helping to shape the climate of opinion.

"I do hope that I can give many more years of faithful service in a different capacity thereby continuing to help promote the IEA’s mission along with my successor and the existing staff whom I admire greatly.”

The IEA's director general, Mark Littlewood, said: “Philip has been a tower of strength for 14 years at the IEA, not merely maintaining the Institute’s reputation but significantly improving it. He possesses an amazing combination of skills and experience – acting as an editor, author, lecturer, teacher, manager, spokesman and a leader for the Institute. It is an enormous understatement to say that he will be a tough act to follow."
