Redgrave saddened by BOA dispute
BRITISH Olympic legend Sir Steven Redgrave admits it is a huge shame the build-up to next summer’s London Games are currently being overshadowed by the cash dispute between the British Olympic Association and 2012 organisers Locog.
The five-time Olympics rowing gold medalist, yesterday announced as one of 27 former British athletes who will act as mentors to members of the 2012 team, believes the focus should be on the athletics track and not on a courtroom . “I guess for us as investors, yes it is a shame,” he said. “But for the team not at all. They are more interested in their selection for May next year.
“Their underlying thoughts are how can we perform well enough to be part of the GB team and I’m quite sure it will all be completed soon.”
On his new voluntary ambassadorial role, Redgrave added: “Most athletes and coaches you find want to get as much information as they can and if we can provide some help that enhances their chance of achieving their Olympic dream then it’s a worthy exercise.”
