WAYNE ROONEY is hot favourite to join a select band of players honoured at this year’s Professional Footballers’ Association awards.

The Manchester United striker, 24, has been rewarded for his 34 goals this season by being nominated for both the PFA Player and Young Player of the Year Awards.

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, 22, is also nominated for both, looking to join former Aston Villa striker Andy Gray (1977) and Cristiano Ronaldo (2007) in claiming both awards in the same year.

Joining Rooney and Fabregas on the four-man shortlist for the main award is Chelsea striker Didier Drogba and Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez, while Birmingham keeper Joe Hart and Aston Villa midfielder James Milner make up the young player nominations.

PFA PLAYERS | THE NOMINEES

Carlos Tevez (Man City), Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal), Didier Drogba (Chelsea), Wayne Rooney (Man United)

PFA YOUNG PLAYERS OF THE YEAR:
