Sainsbury’s Bank has gone shopping in the lingerie department for a new non-executive director and appointed the former chief executive of Figleaves.com to the board.

Michael Ross will join with immediate effect and help develop its banking arm’s digital and data strategies, the retailer said yesterday.

Ross founded the online lingerie retailer Figleaves in the early 2000s before selling it to online catalogue retailer N Brown in 2010 for £11.5m.

He is currently director and chief scientist at OrderDynamics, a retail-focussed data analytics software company he set up in 2007,

“Michael is passionate about digital innovation and helping businesses understand how to make the best use of their data in order to enhance customer experience, creating efficiencies for both customers and business,” Sainsbury’s Bank chairman Roger Davis, said.

“We believe his knowledge and experience will be a great asset to the bank as we embrace this next chapter in our growth.”
