Seaman: Loyal Fabregas will follow Vieira’s path
ARSENAL legend David Seaman expects captain Cesc Fabregas to resist a summer move to Barcelona and stay at the club until late in his career, like Patrick Vieira.
Fabregas, 22, has been strongly linked with a return to his boyhood club at the end of the season, although both he and Barca have denied reports an agreement is already in place.
But former England goalkeeper Seaman, who occasionally coaches at the Gunners, compares the Spaniard’s position to that of former skipper Vieira, who was constantly rumoured to be moving but only left for Juventus after turning 29.
“I don’t think he will leave if Arsenal don’t win a trophy this season – you don’t get that sort of thing from your captain,” said Seaman.
“I think Cesc will be there for quite a while, as Patrick did, coming towards the end of your career, and then moving on.”
Arsenal’s midweek win over Liverpool, coupled with slips by Chelsea and Manchester United, means they are just six points off the pace in the Premier League.
“It puts them right back in the title race,” added Seaman, speaking at an event to support the Deloitte Street Child World Cup, which takes place in South Africa next month.
“I would put some money on Arsenal – if they play the way we know they can do they will beat anybody, no matter who it is. If they can get that going consistently, they’ve got a great chance.”
