Wimbledon 2015: Serena Williams brushes aside sister Venus to reach last eight
World No1 Serena Williams insisted that she feels at her most lethal in grand slams from the quarter-final onwards after defeating elder sister Venus to reach the last eight of Wimbledon yesterday.
Five-time champion Serena prevailed in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, to record her 15th victory in 26 professional contests between the siblings and remain on course to secure the third leg of her bid to complete a calendar grand slam.
The 33-year-old’s last defeat at a Major came at the All England Club 12 months ago, while for the first time since 2012 the 20-time grand slam winner has navigated the fourth round at SW19. Serena faces 23rd seed Victoria Azarenka in the last eight today.
“This is where I feel comfortable in a grand slam,” said Williams. “I felt like I’ve had a couple of losses in the first week and now suddenly I’m vulnerable. That’s how it is.
“I’ve had a couple of tough matches with Victoria. She’s due to win big and to do really well. Incidentally, so am I.”
