Seven out of ten London businesses are in favour of National Living Wage, compared to six out of ten overall
Seven out of ten (71 per cent) businesses in London are in favour of the National Living Wage, according to figures shown exclusively to Morning Wire by Group Risk Development (GRiD).
By comparison, in a survey released earlier by the GRiD, only 62 per cent of businesses across the UK as a whole were fond of the National Living Wage, which was revealed in the July Budget and will come into force in April 2016.
Half (50 per cent) of London businesses are also in favour of merging tax and National Insurance, compared with 47 per cent across the whole of the country, and 83 per cent in London were pleased when the chancellor unveiled a rise in personal allowance to £11,000 last summer, compared to 82 per cent across the UK.
Commenting on the survey findings, Katharine Moxham, spokesperson for GRiD, said: “From these findings, employers are clearly putting staff first when it comes to welfare and consideration of income. Yes, there has been widespread concern and calls to cast the new Living Wage aside for the sake of the bottom line but, on the ground, businesses are thinking longer-term when it comes to employee support.”
