Smartphones: the rivals
Samsung Galaxy SIII
The Galaxy SIII may be embroiled in Samsung’s patent dispute with Apple, but what is not in question is the quality of the handset. With a gigantic 4.8 inch screen, a 1.4GHz quadcore processor and an upcoming update to the latest version of Google’s Android operating system, this is the biggest challenger to the iPhone 5.
Nokia Lumia 920
The latest Nokia offering continues its return to form, if not its return to selling a lot of phones. It has a gigantic 4.5 inch HD display, among the best cameras on the market, wireless charging (just lay it on a “charging plate) and runs the newest version of Microsoft’s mobile operating system, Windows Phone 8.
Huawei Ascend
Huawei is still a relative unknown in the UK market, despite having produced “white label” handsets for other companies for years. The Ascend is a high-end offering with a 4.3 inch screen, a 1.5GHz dualcore processor. It is also just 9.9mm thick. But does it have the wow factor of the iPhone? No. No it doesn’t.
HTC One XL
The One XL is another oversized smartphone, with a 4.7 inch screen, a 1.5GHz dualcore processor and HTC’s biggest selling point: its Beats Audio system. It also comes with a lower price-tag than its more lauded rivals. Having said that, sometimes you get what you pay for.
