Woods confirms Open entry
GOLF: Tiger Woods has vowed to play in this year’s Open Championship at St Andrews if he recovers from the neck injury which forced him to withdraw from the recent Players Championship.
The world No1 pulled out of the final round at Sawgrass a fortnight ago, but is still expected to challenge for a fourth US Open title at Pebble Beach in June.
Woods is looking to become the first player to win three Opens at St Andrews following his victories in 2000 and 2005.
Traille injury setback for Biarritz
RUGBY UNION: Biarritz have been dealt a blow ahead of their all-French Heineken Cup final with Toulouse after losing centre Damien Traille with an arm injury.
But key No8 Imanol Harinordoquy should be fit to play despite a broken nose and a rib injury.
Younis agrees Surrey move
CRICKET: Surrey have signed up Pakistan batsman Younis Khan for a summer stint, subject to a visa.
Younis, who has a Test average of 50.09, is expected to arrive next week and will play in all competitions for the county until mid-July.
The 32-year-old will not be joined India spin bowler Piyush Chawla, however, after he was refused permission by his domestic chiefs.
Veteran Searle announces return
ROWING: Greg Searle has announced his return to the British squad after a 10-year break to take part in the London 2012 Olympics – when he will be 40.
Searle, who won gold in 1992 with brother Jonny and cox Garry Herbert, and bronze in 1996, returns in an eight for a World Cup event next month.
