Horsey wins in Germany
GOLF: David Horsey was the only Englishman celebrating victory over the Germans yesterday after he came from behind to claim the biggest win of his career at the BMW International Open in Munich.
The 25-year-old shot a five-under-par closing round 67 to finish on 18-under-par, one shot clear of fellow countryman Ross Fisher.
Long-time leader Bradley Dredge fell off the pace after shooting a double-bogey at 16 and finished in a tie for third.
Hanescu is sorry in spit row
TENNIS: Victor Hanescu has apologised after he was fined £10,000 for spitting in the direction of fans at Wimbledon on Friday.
The Romanian appeared to react after he was verbally abused by a section of the crowd during his match against Daniel Brand.
In a statement, he said: “I lost my control briefly in the fifth set after another insult from someone in the crowd. I should never have done that but I am human and I made a mistake.”
Sinfield thwarts Wolves
RUGBY LEAGUE: Kevin Sinfield produced a masterful display of kicking for Leeds as Warrington missed the chance to close the gap on leaders Wigan in the Super League.
In a match of six tries apiece, Sinfield proved the matchwinner by landing all of his conversions before booting over a 45-yard drop goal.
Elsewhere, Michael Shenton ran in a hat-trick of tries to help Castleford to a 28-22 win over Bradford to take them to within a point of a top-eight place.
