Yousuf back for Pakistan
CRICKET: Former captain Mohammad Yousuf has been recalled to the Pakistan squad for Friday’s second Test with England after coming out of retirement.
Yousuf quit the international stage in protest at his suspension after last year’s winter tour to Australia.
But he has made himself available for the Edgbaston Test, although it may depend on whether he is granted a visa.
Leg-spinner Danish Kaneria has been dropped from the side and replaced by Raza Hasan.
Fisher takes Irish crown
GOLF: Ross Fisher gave his Ryder Cup hopes a massive boost after holding on to claim a two-shot victory at the Irish Open in Killarney.
Fisher went into yesterday’s final day one shot clear and needed to shoot a 65 to fend off a brilliant 64 from home favourite Padraig Harrington.
England’s Chris Wood and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, of Spain, finished a further two strokes back in a tie for third.
Victory takes Fisher up to sixth in the European Ryder Cup points table with the top nine qualifying.
Tseng claims Women’s Open
GOLF: Taiwan’s Yani Tseng claimed a third Major title after holding off a late challenge from Katherine Hull to clinch the Women’s British Open at Royal Birkdale by one shot.
Tseng, 21, led the tournament from day one but despite opening up a four-shot lead over the Australian, was forced to endure a nervous back nine after three bogeys.
But Hull’s challenge, however, ended with a lipped birdie putt on the 17th and Tseng held her nerve.
Crusaders rally to record win
RUGBY LEAGUE: A Nick Youngquest hat-trick and 24 points from Clint Schifcofske helped Crusaders to their biggest ever Super League win with a 60-16 thrashing of Salford to keep their play-off hopes alive.
Elsewhere, Huddersfield steamrollered Wakefield 58-6, Hull KR beat Castleford 28-26 and Catalans Dragons subjected an 11th straight defeat on Bradford Bulls, winning 24-22 at Odsal.
Marquez eyes Pacquiao trilogy
BOXING: Juan Manuel Marquez is targeting a third fight with Manny Pacquiao after retaining his WBA and WBO lightweight titles with a unanimous points win over Juan Diaz in Las Vegas on Saturday.
Marquez has previously drawn and lost to Pacquiao, but the Mexican has set his sights on a third tilt at the Filipino, who is being touted for a showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jnr.
“The trilogy with Pacquiao is what I want,” Marquez said.
