Eriksson appointed Foxes boss
FOOTBALL: Former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson believes he can lead Leicester back into the Premier League within two years.
Eriksson took charge of the Championship strugglers yesterday after agreeing a two-year contract to succeed Paulo Sousa, who was sacked on Friday.
“I think it’s realistic because they’re wealthy owners and they want to have the club in the Premier League,” said the Swede, who last coached Ivory Coast at the World Cup over the summer.
“The stadium is there, the supporters are there, the training ground is there, so why not? It’s going to be a big go and I like to try. I think it’s possible.”
Eriksson was in the stands at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday to see the Foxes climb off the bottom by beating Scunthorpe and will take charge of his first game against the Thailand national team at the weekend.
Workforce wins Prix de l’Arc
HORSE RACING: Derby winner Workforce added the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe after seeing off Japanese challenger Nakayama Festa at Longchamp.
Victory was trainer Sir Michael Stoute’s first in the Arc and another feather in the cap of jockey Ryan Moore. Sarafina pipped favourite Behkabad to third place. Earlier, Goldikova won a record 11th European Group One contest by claiming the Prix de la Foret.
Capello to name England squad
FOOTBALL: England head coach Fabio Capello is expected to recall captain Rio Ferdinand and John Terry when he names his latest squad today.
The pair missed last month’s wins over Bulgaria and Switzerland but are fit again for next week’s Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro. Newcastle’s Andy Carroll is tipped for a first senior call-up, despite being dropped yesterday.
