FOOTBALL: FA Boss: Capello going nowhere
Football Association chief executive Ian Watmore insists Fabio Capello will see out his England contract.
Rumours have emerged that the Italian may stand down after this summer’s World Cup in South Africa, with Fulham boss Roy Hodgson being touted as a possible successor.
But Watmore said: “We expect Fabio Capello to remain in the post for the duration of his contract, which runs through to the summer of 2012.”
FOOTBALL: Bolton ready to spring for Coyle
Bolton are today expected to make an official approach for Burnley boss Owen Coyle.
Trotters chariman Phil Gartside is thought to want the former Bolton play- er at the helm before next weekend’s Premier League clash at Sunderland.
Coyle, who led Burnley back into the top-flight for the first time in 33 years, increased speculation by missing a routine post-match press conference after his side’s FA Cup win at MK Dons.
CRICKET: Middlesex keen to sign Ntini
Middlesex are closing in on the signing of South Africa paceman Makhaya Ntini.
The 32-year-old is rumoured to be on the verge of retiring from Test cricket after his poor form saw him left out of South Africa’s side to face England in the third Test.
Middlesex captain Shaun Udal said: “He has not officially signed, but the next call is his. We’d be delighted to sign him.”
TENNIS: Murray: Slams not everything
Britain’s Andy Murray insists he does not have to win a Grand Slam in order to be considered a success.
The world No4, who arrived in Perth on Saturday to begin preparations for the upcoming Australian Open, acknowl- edges the presence of all-time greats Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal may prevent him claiming a Slam.
The 22-year-old Scot said: “That’s what I want to do [win a Grand Slam]. But this is one of, if not the toughest era in tennis.”
