O’Sullivan sees off Williams
SNOOKER: World No1 Ronnie O’Sullivan continued his quest for a fourth world title with an impressive 13-10 victory over rival Mark Williams.
Resuming at 8-8, “The Rocket” reeled off three century breaks to stun the two-time champion. He now takes on Mark Selby in the quarter-final after he cruised past veteran Stephen Hendry 13-5.
Shaun Murphy, the 2005 champion, produced a storming finish to beat China’s Ding Junhui 13-10, while Ali Carter was a 13-11 victor over Joe Perry.
Murray puts form to the test
TENNIS: Britain’s No1 Andy Murray is hoping to end his self-proclaimed “bad stretch” at the Rome Masters today.
The fourth seed takes on Italian Andreas Seppi tonight, looking to put behind him his first round defeat to Philipp Kohlschreiber in the Monte Carlo Masters a fortnight ago. Murray said: “I’d obviously like to match and improve on what I did on clay last season, but getting through my first match is my goal here and we’ll take it from there.”
Froch venue row continues
BOXING: Carl Froch’s on-going participation in the Super Six tournament remains in serious doubt after rival promoters denied to having an arrangement in place to stage his next fight in Britain.
Froch must defeat German Arthur Abraham to progress to the semi-finals after losing his WBC super-middleweight title to Mikkel Kessler in Denmark on Saturday night.
His promoter said an agreement was in place to stage the fight in Nottingham but Wilfried Sauerland, who promotes Abraham and Kessler, denies the claim.
