Store to door: Dixons Carphone in talks with Uber to ferry tech to homes

Dixons Carphone, the company behind Currys PC World, has begun talks with Uber to speed up its delivery offering, which was recently slimmed down from 24 hours to an hour.

The deal would see Uber drivers deliver the company’s products as it looks to expand its home delivery services, a market not yet ventured by Uber, which so far ferries people and food.

Dixons Carphone chief executive Alex Baldock said he would reveal more details in the coming weeks when asked about the deal.

“One of the big advantages of having stores as well as online is an increasing number of consumers are impatient and want their amazing technology right now, and we can get it faster than anyone else through order and collect, so we’re going to keep driving that time down.

“It is a means of getting our technology to customers fast.”

Baldock added that the goal is to trim delivery times down to just 15 minutes.

Regarding Uber’s trial, which looks at the gig economy and its works contracts, the Dixons boss said: “We’ll say a bit more about that in weeks to come but we’re flagging that it’s coming.”
