Electric car giant Tesla has announced two of its top motor executives will leave the company ahead of its widely-anticipated, mass-market Model 3 car.

Tesla said its vice president of production, Greg Reichow, who had previously been pegged to lead the manufacturing of the Model 3 vehicle, would take a leave of absence after a successor had been found, according to CNBC.

In addition, Tesla's vice president of manufacturing, Josh Ensign, will also be leaving the company.

"Greg and the team deserve a lot of credit for building an all-new manufacturing organization from the ground up and for making Model S and Model X a reality. We're confident that with the strength of the team, high-quality manufacturing at Tesla will continue," chief executive Elon Musk said in a statement.

Demand for Tesla's Model 3 vehicle was revealed in April, with pre-orders already worth $14bn recorded from eager car fans, adding up to around 325,000 vehicles.
