We all know London is a city of booze-lovers – but that's just been made official, after 23 of its restaurants were awarded honours at the Wine List Awards. That makes the capital's wine lists the second best in the world.

London eateries including St John, Dinner by Heston and The Ledbury were given three-star awards in this year's World's Best Wine Lists Awards.

New York was the city with the most top-rated wine lists, although Robuchon au Dome at the Hotel Lisboa in Macau won the best overall wine list in the world award, while the Pix Patisserie in Oregon, US, won the best champagne and sparkling wine list in the world.

An Australian restaurant, the Rockpool Bar & Grill in Sydney, won best by-the-glass wine list, while New York City's Terroir won best wine bar list.

And if you like a tipple when you're flying, opt for Emirates – it was named the airline with the best wine list.
