Tiger planning’s meticulous
SO, the lure of a possible fifth Masters title and a 15th Major was too much for Tiger Woods to refuse – and I can’t see many complaints.
Woods will play competitively for the first time in five months at next month’s Masters and typically, Tiger’s thought about his comeback meticulously.
Most would have expected him to return for the Tavistock Cup or for Bay Hill in the build-up to the Masters, but he knew he would receive a much better reception at Augusta, where press accreditation is far more exclusive.
Tiger’s clearly a broken man off the course but is still the king on it. With that exclusive audience of people he can trust behind him, it gives him the best opportunity to focus on his game.

While Tiger is preparing to rediscover his best form, a young Welshman by the name of Rhys Davies is on the crest of a wave.
The former Walker Cup player did not even have a Challenge Tour card 12 months ago.
But now the 24-year-old is in the running to qualify for the Ryder Cup in his homeland this autumn. Davies would have been pleased to just a secure his European Tour card with a third place in Malaysia two weeks ago, but a fantastic maiden victory in the Hassan II Trophy in Morocco at the weekend was a dream come true for the lad, who climbs into the world’s top 100.
Another big winner this week was Jim Furyk, who, incredibly, landed a first PGA Tour victory since 2007 with a one-shot win in the Transitions Championship in Florida.
Jim is a player who’s always had the talent to become a multiple Major winner, and this victory is timely indeed ahead of the Masters in a fortnight’s time.
As for me, the next leg of the Seniors Tour takes me to South Africa this week. With two top 10 finishes, it’s been a satisfactory start, but it would be fantastic to get a first win of the season under my belt.
