The former Top Gear presenting team of Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond are reportedly in talks with Netflix to launch a spin-off of the popular show called House of Cars.

The trio are currently out of action after Clarkson was sacked from the successful BBC show, prompting May and Hammond to leave too.

Clarkson, who was dumped by the BBC for assaulting one of the show's producers, has discussed working on a new car show with Netflix according to the Daily Mirror.

The potential House of Cars name is an obvious nod to the streaming platform's successful series House of Cards starring Kevin Spacey.

Netflix has shown its willingness to pay big money on developing exclusive content in order to grow its audience – even if revenue is currently struggling to keep up with costs.

Clarkson and co' would certainly be a draw for Netflix. Top Gear was immensely popular with the trio at the helm, delivering BBC 2 nine of its 10 most-watched TV series' over the last nine years.

However, Netflix could face competition from elsewhere to bag the Top Gear team, with Clarkson also reported to have held talks with ITV, according to reports.
